The Samuel Plays Brass Story
Upon founding the YouTube channel brass players know and love today, I had already experienced broadcasting myself on a different channel and various social networks. I had even posted a few trumpet-playing videos on my old, now abandoned channel by that point. However, I had never achieved any significant degree of exposure, and after a couple of years I was beginning to feel burned out by my old hobbies. Thus, in the late summer before my freshman year, I turned over a new leaf and created new page: Samuel Plays Brass.

Drawing inspiration from reviewers like Trent Hamilton, multitrack creators like Christopher Bill, and later music theorists like Adam Neely, I began putting out videos of me playing various brass instruments and discussing them. My new channel quickly surpassed my abandoned old one in subscribers and views, and I became motivated to create the best content I could. I explored new ground in recording, editing, composing, and arranging.

My YouTube channel, beyond its (limited) entertainment value, has provided me with valuable life lessons. There's nothing quite like putting yourself out there to attract all sorts of feedback, good and bad. I'm extremely thankful for the experience and connections I have gained from my work, and I want to impart as much of what I've learned as I can to beginning musicians to make their musical journey enjoyable and fulfilling. That, I have realized after all these years, is the true purpose of my channel.
